Connor is really reading now. He is learning a lot in kindergarten- for example, he learned the seven continents. In music class. ?? He loves P.E. They're starting to "code" words (long vowel/short vowel) and clap syllables- about which he asked, Why do we have to do that?
I think it's to help your reading skills, I explained (I really don't know). But I already know how to read, he replied. I don't know, ask your teacher, I told him. He decided he would not.
THE most exciting thing for him recently was getting a small icepak to carry in his lunch bag each day. Seriously that is what he was excited about going to school for on Monday. I hope the ice pak lived up to his expectations. I forgot to ask him.
He was given his first "test" on Thursday - matching words and sounds to letters- and he answered all of the items correctly. He is also having more and more homework.
He is very excited to be reading, and he is doing a great job.
In about three weeks we will all have a short break to mark the end of the first term.
